there's also Titus with two others, and Mr. and Mrs. C, but, as yet, no sign of an outbreak of epidemiologists - although one was spoken of.

Crikey this is tempting - Im driving down to Brighton early hours of the 24th anyway... Suppose you lot will be gone by then? (10ish)

Now only if I can get the misses to drive so I can go ahead on the train.... hmmmm.....

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Smeggers, if you don't make it, my disappointment will know no bounds.

We'll arrive about 8 and I'll be doing a Dr. Bike session from 9 to 12.

Having said that, if you don't register for this one, you'll find yourself on my top secret 'flirt' list with Spire and Ben L.

Abs - you're on the list.

I'm not surprised you're up for the return trip, being as you're related to the Great Explorer................who, having joined the pantheon of my boyhood heroes, breathed his last in Brighton....

Are you supposed to do those whilst absolutely langered? Speaking of which, is there an early bar near the Madeira?

I see all this secret flirting hasn't actually got you anywhere with Spire yet. I don't know what kind of advances you are making, but try not to put Smeggers off as well...

Yay! :hyper:

Ah yes Sir Douglas Mawson, Antarctic explorer and companion of Shackleton on his ill fated well told trip. His ancestry is difficult to trace due to his parents emigration to Australia but there is a chance he's a removed relative.

Shackleton connections, eh? I might have known that one gets priority on the FNRttC lists through the Old Alleynian network... ;)

Was he a companion of Shackleton? I thought he led his own expedition.

Shackleton was a complete arse, by the way. One of my least favourite people in all of history, along with Perkin Warbeck and George Lansbury. I'm afraid that every time one of those ghastly biopics appears on the telly I fly off in to a fearful bate and have to be prevented from throwing things at the screen.

If my recollection serves he did both; led one and accompanied one. He had some association with Scott as well although the details escape me. I'll ask my dad and get the details for recounting on the ride.

EDIT : On a serious note I've not "gone the distance" so to speak but I'm sure that'll cope.

I've yet to do a cycle ride further than 50 miles......

Bit confused though, we leave HPC at midnight and get to Brighton at 8?? I know it's genteel......

Three reps of Ditchling takes its toll you know + a cake stop en route. This is about exploration Martin - not route one afterburners on! (Except when trying to trigger the camera!) 'Conversational pace' has been mentioned in the past. This time around you are going to learn about Messrs Shackleton and 'Great Uncle Doug', among other delights, so settle down...;)
