Hopefully I'm not wasting anyone's time but decided to go to A&E now.

Just in case.

It’s what it’s there for and it won’t be as busy while the GPs are open. That says I did have to wait ages for X-ray despite being scraped up by an ambulance (it was a Sunday). I was in and out within 4 hours
Urgent care or minor injuries might be more appropriate than full blown A&E

I was talking to an ambulance driver a few days ago.

He said A&E had been much quieter since Covid, so hopefully you won't have hours to wait.

Seems to be much the same here. There is only 4 people in the waiting room and I've been assessed already.

They wanted to keep me in but I managed to negotiate my release and will go for surgery either tomorrow or over the weekend. Can't wait.

Thanks to everyone who suggested getting it checked, especially @vickster who is never usually far wrong with these matters. Who knows how long I would have waited until I decided to do something about it.
