If it helps the trick I have learnt, trying to put on tyres with only one hand (fractured wrist) is that even tough tyres go on easily with a few cable ties around the outside to push the bead into the wheel.

Even put on a Marathon+ this way. Using them at the moment as really don't fancy a puncture at the side of the road even with cable ties.

£8 for 5 minutes work? If their prices go much higher they'll be setting up in business as solicitors.

Depends on exactly what they were offering. Never asked them to repair a puncture but whenever I have had my LBS do a job they throw in checking everything at the same time.

If it was £8 but they'd tighten up any spokes, check the wheel was true and adjust the brakes that's probably good value for someone not mechanically minded - which, to be honest, most people going to an LBS for a puncture probably aren't.
