Anyone else for strawberries?
Some taste nice, but the biggest, reddist-looking ones are, well, bland and a complete let-down, and I feel duped.

Engish strawberries, in season, ie June early July cannot be beaten. Don't buy the supermarket all year round ones from Egypt, Belgium, Holland(Netherlands) they are pap, not worth the money.

for the OP: tofu and carob-masquarading-as-chocolate. Both are bland, tasteless rubbish that are completely joyless to consume.

Had oysters at Xmas that had been harvested that morning from Ile de Ray. They were amazingly good. We ate them raw with some lemon and brown bread. Yum!

Been a bit underwhelmed any time I've eaten in a restaurant holding michelin stars; I think my idea of what makes a good restaurant must differ from that of the inspectors, although maybe I've been unlucky. Certainly, the only time I've fallen during a meal was in a restaurant which had a michelin star.

As I expected - just about everyone is wrong, except Ian.

Browser almost scored points for mange tout, but then went and spoilt it with that nonsense about beef steak.

Anyway, the correct answer is baby sweetcorn and sundried tomatoes.

I've just finished the last of the tomatoes I preserved from last summer's crop. The effect (bake in a very low oven for several hours, then freeze or bottle in oil) is very similar to sun dried, and tastes pretty damn fine.

Ideally, ask if you can taste one of strawberries before you buy them. If not possible - smell them - I can tell the tasty ones from just one sniff!

Only downside to that is they wont let you, as at certain times of the year one strawberry is 30 or more pence each. Can you imagine if most asked to taste one?

Yeah right. My local greengrocer pretty much hands me a fresh fruit salad when I walk through the door. Yours obviously has you pegged as a bit of a cheapskate and considers the odd strawberry wasted on you.
