I'm not sure the only function of debate is to change the minds of debaters. I don't get involved that often but I like to read others' thoughts which helps me calibrate my own thinking. It's also fun to debate and to listen in. There's an element of sport about it.
Have you seen these cycling jerseys? Only £15. Saw someone wearing one and it looks smart.

I dip into the Brexit thread every now & again but after reading about 5 posts all I can think about is

That also seems to be the extent to the debate of most posts in there
 
Do we really need to do this one again?
Not sure why people need to keep posting in cafe about P&L, nor why people start obvious political posts in cafe then claim they don't "do" politics.
