Why would you move to South?

Hills? Surrey?
Eh, lad, you dunno wot 'ills are if yer think Surrey 'as 'ills!

Seriously - try looking for jobs in/near Bristol. Lots going on in Bristol (I'm a miserable bugger so I don't use the city's facilities), and from where I live (about 10 miles north) I can do a ride in the Forest of Dean, a ride through beautiful Cotswold villages, I've even cycled into Wiltshire, past the Avebury stone circle etc. Not too far to drive to get into Wales for a weekend, etc.

Mind you, if I could fix the weather and kill the sodding midges, my choice of a place to live would be Scotland. (I'd have to get OH to retire as well....)
Scotland is fantastic if you have nothing to do ( employment wise ) it's lovely up there ( just not in the winter ). Bristol is very unusual in that it's a very cycle friendly, and worthwhile place to live ( except St. Paul's et.al.) that is West of Hampshire. I actually like Brizzle.

You're right on the edge, I think of you as one of these Frontiersmen of old with a long leather fringe around your jacket:okay:.
Here's me oot walking the dogs earlier

The weather is fine, don't listen to the hype, and there's no midges on the east coast. The only downside to that is, well your on the east coast. Best solution, man up and move to the west coast. :becool:

This is not just a rhetorical question.
I have been living in East Midlands for last 12 years. I have good job, a home and I am quite happy here. But I am one of those people who does not want to work in the same place. I am constantly looking for other jobs, has set alert system to get notified of new jobs.
So I saw this advert for a job in Surrey. It can be considered a promotion but only in name. So I will get the same salary. I started looking for houses and realised that I can just afford a 2 bed flat if I were to sell my 4 bed house in East Midlands.
I can see that everything is expensive.
So why would anyone want to move south?
I would imagine most of those that move south, do so at the beginning of their career (ie out of education) or at the end (retired).

To move, mid career would usually suggest a big promotion or special position that provided increased income.

My wife moved fro North London to South London (via Whitehaven and Acton) - moving across the Thames was traumatic.

Pretty accurate assessment wrt the start of career, and mid career but I know no one who has moved South (London/Surrey etc) to retire

I spent a few years in Leicester, Oadby and Knighton. They had their plus points, but the plus points of moving back south outweighed them, ten to one.

Ahh yeah, I was thinking further south like the coast.its comparatively cheap in some coastal towns (especially those without rail links to london). Personally its not my thing and I would prefer to retire up north or perhaps out west but id imagine it happens.
