Now I love my daughters to bits, and am already starting to worry about them leaving home (they're 14 and 12).

But what if they don't? What if their teenage indifference to tidying-up and generally being helpful at home isn't just a 'phase', and they're still with us in 20 years, still doing eff-all to assist? What if I cease to adore them and then regard them as blood-sucking parasites?

What if my simply sitting around dressed only in skanky pants won't prompt them to leave?

<<worried>>

Yes, now if I could.

I have posted on the forum a number of times about the state of my home life , if it wasnt for the kids i would have legged it .
No-one knows anyone else's situation, nor would I presume to generalise...all I'm saying is that while I probably wouldn't up sticks, I most certainly would have a frank exchange of views on matters like fair shares and not taking the piss.

Thankfully we share out the chores so there isn't any friction there. There are certain tasks that my wife tends to do, but equally there are jobs that I do that she wouldn't go anywhere near. Cooking, cleaning, ironing are pretty equal. She does the polishing more than me but then I sort the garden out 90% of the time and I think it's a balance which suits us. We realise we're quite fortunate in this respect.

Sometimes it's down to shear logistics because of shift work. If I'm off, her tea will be ready for when she gets home, and if she gets home before me she cracks on with it before I get in.

Just realised we must be very lucky, well tbh i knew that before. We have a live in home help, a cleaner who comes in three times a week every other week and a gardener who comes three times a week. When we was in the UK tasks were shared. I think its all to with training in your formative years.

I left home at 30, took 3 years to save enought deposit after me and my now wife decided we were ready to buy a house!.

Could never kick my two out, but they won't be work shy/ dossing about in the house that's for sure!.

I can't imagine me evicting my daughter if she wasn't ready to leave home. I can't imagine ever having to evict my son.

Anyway it wouldn't only be my decision, I would probably be the one evicted if I suggested it!

Playing reveille on a tuba at 5am and shouting out them to get outside for a 5 mile march at 180ppm, followed by 200 press ups and an hour of drill practice soon gives them the incentive they need to go find their own gaff. Damn 12 year olds, don't know they're born.

Thats not the biggest thing, she has frittered away any money we have had so we have had to down size twice.

How can you tell this morning that my lad is home from Uni.The washing line has not got an inch of space left on it.I kid you not,we went to Manchester to pick him and some stuff up yesterday,We have another trip next week,it's Uni holidays,i love it when they are both home, just for a short time. They have to stand on their own two feet, but we are around to pick up when needed.

Mine are both music students (brass). You can tell they are home because the first thing they do is bath their instruments and there is a ring of old valve oil around the bath!
