No TV Licence

I get one of those every few months. I've been receiving them now for must be 5 years, since the agency employed to knock on the doors of 'the unlicensed' came round 8 years ago, with me being so friendly to them, they said I wouldn't get another visit or any such as the above letters for the next three years. When those three years ended the letters started. I love the will you be in question on the front of the letter! I've never replied to any of their letters, but if I was going to be in, why would I say yes! Imagine the police asking a cannabis grower if they'll be in on a certain date, as they plan to raid their house on that date!!!😏

Brilliant that they warn you, you won't even need to get up when they knock the door. I haven't had a TV licence for 7 years I think. What a huge saving in money. I'll admit though that my mother lives nearby so on the rare occasion I want to watch something on the BBC I watch it there. The first was War of the Worlds but it was such an amateur production it was hard to believe, absolutely dire. The other was called something like 7 bodies in a mexican morque and was brilliant, really enjoyed it and that was quite recent. I'm not really interested in paying for the dire BBC news service and their pension shortfall etc. I don't subscribe to any streaming service but do use youtube with an adblocker so can watch their 'free with ads' movies as the adblocker still works to stop those ads. So have enjoyed some great movies for free.

Ok, I might be in the minority, but I have to come clean. I watch telly and have a licence to do so. Cause I’m a mad man!!!!

So do I. Although currently I only watch it via streaming services (Roku device) because our arial became detached in a storm last year. Bu since that includes iplayer, and I watch other broadcast services "as live" sometimes (mainly sports), I do need a licence.

That's how it should work, you use the service so you should pay for it. However it is incredibly unfair to ITV that you need a licence to view their channels which are funded by advertising. That condition should never have been included that any live tv needed a TV Licence because it damages commercial channels.

much better to buy British products and use British retailers than pay for a TV licence. The BBC spends a lot of money abroad on international journalists and other operations. I actually see the BBC as a negative as its so grossly inefficient and we need to develop cost effective efficient companies rather than organisations like the BBC that waste huge amounts of money. I mean how many orchestras were they paying for at one point? It was ridiculous a complete waste of money.

Been a while since a good old "The Beeb is rubbish" thread, albeit a resurrection...

Is it perfect? No.

But if they pulled the plug tomorrow the media "landscape" in the UK would suffer. Their local news and sport coverage is miles ahead of commercial broadcasters.

As for gloating about using it and not paying, well, that's a bit at odds with being appalled by theft from a health supplement shop...
