Figured I’d buy new discs for the new wheels - then I can literally remove the (49 mile old 🙄) wheels on the bike: and sell as a set completely ready to go with tyres, brake discs, skewers etc.

And then you start looking into weights of course 😙 **And whether floating discs (And the buttons on them) will clear my calipers. So the below discs may just be ‘temporary’. Either way i should now have every single part bought and on the way…….

I thought I'd post on here rather than derail the other thread. After you bought up the concern about the rivets on the floating disc fouling the calipers, I thought I'd have a look at mine. The rivets themselves barely protrude from the surface of the disc itself and as you can see from the photos below, they are in line with the mounting bolts at their closest point, rather than the caliper body. Now I have IS caliper mounts with a IS to Post mount adapter. On a flat mount I suspect that all this space would be filled with frame, however, I doubt that the rivets would touch. You can see on mine the clearance is tight, but crucially there is clearance.

I don't if that is helpful or not, but hopefully it gives you a better idea.

My rims from DT Swiss are here. Hubs from Hope may be a week (?). Then drop bits at LBS who are building them for me; and mock up / measure spoke length and order as needed. Then build. At that point I can trial a disc on the bike. So it’s going to be a little while as yet…..

I’ll of course update as progress appears. Hopefully only the positive sort 😉

Two new Pirelli P zero Race tyres (tubeless), plus sealant and an air tank pump.

And I've just looked them up, and they aren't the tubeless variant. Ooops. They said in Ride Bike Wales that they were tubeless, and I never thought to double check. I got them seated, got sealant in, and they have stayed up through a short test ride.

We'll have to see what happens longer term, but I won't be able to call back to RBW until next Tuesday.

And what happens is that the front tyre was flat this morning. Pumped it back up, but 10 minutes later flat agsin, not riskinga commute on that.

Having rung them, they will sort it out, they'll have to order in the right tyres, but should be there tomorrow.

More buying 'pairs' via eBay auctions:

- A pair of Nukeproof jockey wheels for stock.
- A pair of Hutchinson Fusion 5 tyres for stock.
- A pair of lightly-used Hutchinson Fusion 5 storm tyres for the 'bad weather' Carrera Virago magnesium. The tyres from that bike will go onto the Peugeot 653 project when I go pick up the bike from my storage in Leeds as I'm out of used 25mm road tyres.

Lube and grease.

I need to undo every bolt on both my bikes and add some grease as it's something I've never done and given their age, they could do with it. Also bought a little paintbrush to make applying it easier.

I dropped the saddle on the road bike earlier to get an idea of sizing for the little one but I'd forgotten that back in the day I'd stuck a strip of reflective 3M tape to the seat post. Well getting that back out was hard work as it made the post slightly wider. It dropped down OK, so 🤷‍♂️ . Grease it is.

I've also got a garmin mount for my phone and a new phone case on the way. I'm hoping I can then attach the phone to the existing mount and use Cadence as a GPS cycle computer.

Not bought today. But arrived in the last few days…..

Silver Hope Hubs (Wheels being made with these will be for my Trek Hybrid), light-weight brake discs for same; along with a pair of light-weight Goodyear tyres, TPU inner tubes, 12 x Titanium brake disc bolts and some Kevlar reinforced rim tapes.

And……..looks like I’m now doing 2 wheel builds at the same time; seeing as I seem to have bought a pair of super-lightweight Hubs which I’m going to use for my Carrera Subway. These will be mated to some on-offer Mavic rims and Stainless DT Swiss spokes my LBS is ordering for me Monday.

Hubs are non logo’d, top-end OEM. And are just 235g for the rear / 103g for the front, I think (?) they have Ceramic bearings [Haven’t looked back at specs but are buttery smooth] and I even got a complete spare rear free-hub. Cheap too 👌

^^^Coupled with the Mavic / DT Swiss parts - I reckon these will be around £325 built up. Which I think is ace and should be another very noticeable wheel upgrade for the fleet…..

Just paid for a SRAM Apex1 11 speed rear derailleur.

All my bikes with two exceptions run SRAM Apex or Rival 11 speed gearing - the exceptions being the ebike and the Pickenflick flatbar which run 11 speed SRAM NX with a different pull ratio. I'm not worried about the ebike, but I want the Pickenflick the same as everything else so all the parts are interchangeable hence swapping it to Apex. I don't even need a new shifter as I found an S700 one in my spares box which, although nominally an MTB item, is also Exact Actuation so fully compatible with Apex.

Once I've done the swapover, I'll probably sell the NX shifter & derailleur which should cover the cost of the Apex derailleur.

A set of Shimano brake shoes and cartridges for the Roubaix ... and another set of pads when I wanted a set of cartridges for each wheel!


I ordered the item on the left from Amazon Saturday night (actually 1am Sunday), it arrived Sunday afternoon!
Well happy, until I realised I forgot to order two sets!

I only wanted the cartridges because I'd got some Koolstop Salmon pads and I realised when I went to fit them that the brakes on my Roubaix are one piece. So I'm quite fine for pads thanks, I'm actually very well sorted for pads. It's the things to hold 'em I want.

So I reordered THE EXACT SAME ITEM from the same order on Monday. And the item which showed up is the one on the right. Just a pair of pads with a couple of grubscrews!

Turns out the orders were sold by two different sellers. I've returned the wrong item for a refund today, left a one star review, and ordered another pair from Halfords this time, because once bitten twice shy.

And why on earth do they call pads shoes? To my mind the shoe would be the thing that holds it, as the pad slips into it like a foot in a shoe. 🤷‍♂️

A front Raceblade XL mudguard. Why just the front? About 18 months ago I damaged the front mudguard on my Merida Cyclo-Cross and have used it with a bodged repair since then whilst looking for a replacement front / full set.

Also, a KMC DLC 11 speed chain. In black/yellow whereas I'd prefer black/green but half price.
