    Chain Reaction Cycles returns- Rebound

Anyone know if with rebound tracking you need to still send via special delivery or recorded? Or is rebound safe enough to send with standard royal mail no tracking. As the rebound comes with tracking it says.. Its £141 order im sending back.. So want to know if anyone else has tried it.

    Chain for Huret 5-speed Chainset

I need to replace the chain on the old Carlton I recently bought and the generic chain on it gives me no indication of what I should use. From what I've measured and looked up, a KMC 8-speed (7.3mm pin width) should do it. Does this sound about right?

    Chain Sizing?

Hi all, I've cut this chain too short and wonder if anyone can advise me on how many links I should put back in? I want to get it right as I only have a couple of pins left and they aren't cheap! Thanks.

8 speed chain on a 7 speed freewheel?

Hi all, the title just about sums it up. A seller on eBay has sent me an 8 speed Shimano chain instead of a 7speed. They offered me a refund but now say, after checking with the manufacturer, that an 8 speed chain will be compatible with a 7 speed Shimano freewheel. Is this correct?

Riding with a slightly oversized chain

I'm just wondering what negative effects would you expect if your bike has 2-4 too many links in a chain? When I bought a new cassette I stupidly assumed I had the smaller of the two sizes, turns out I bought the smaller cassette by mistake. I didn't cut down the chain before going out riding in...

    Occasional Chain slip

I've noticed an occasional slip of the chain on my commuter bike; it doesn't seem to be in any particular gear. I'm guessing it's because the chain and cassette are worn after a winter of daily commuting, and the only real solution is replacement, but is there another possible reason? Also, how...

How To Avoid Dropping Your Chain When Changing Down On The Front.

I've done it loads of times (dropped my chain onto the bottom bracket when changing down at the front). Not such a big deal with a steel or Alloy frame, but quite damaging for a Carbon Fibre frame. Early on, when it happened to me, I assumed I needed to adjust the L screw on the front. I...

    Chain Cleaner from Aldi

Hi, I was shopping around Aldi today and came across a "Bike Mate" chain Cleaner for £10. I've just recently replaced my chain and it was looking pretty grubby after a few hundred miles of use. I've often seen these chain cleaners for sale and have always dismissed them as a cheap gimmick but...

Does a worn chain really make that much of a difference?

Hi, Since Christmas my average ride speeds have taken a tumble. The flighty 17/18 mph rides had slowly dropped to the low 16mph avg. I've been just putting it down to getting older and the less cycling done during the cold dark winter months. Recently though i noticed my chain was worn and...

    Third Chain In A Year

Every Saturday morning at about 6am, I give my commuter bike a bit of a once over and I pop a chain checker on the chain (where else?). My chain checker is a 0.75% & 1% device and this morning, 0.75% goes all the way in while the 1% barely even starts going in. Last week, the 0.75%...

Getting a chain back in the box

This isn't the first time I tried this, and I haven't succeeded, yet. It's a magic trick that only the chain makers know. Take a new chain out of the box and then try to put it back in. I coiled this chain up as tightly as I could, and it would not go back in the box. They must have some machine...

    Chain Replacement

Hello agan Should I replace the chain to the exact same length as existing, or is ONE more link going to be a show stopper - I am loathed to break the chain just for one link and the KMC 10 speed chain came with a quicklink so I can go on as is? Hmmm

    Dropped Chain CF Frame damage

This is my new Orbea Orca that cost me about £4.5k...the most expensive purchase (barring my flat) I've ever made: It's a very pretty bike. Sadly it's not so pretty now after one too many chain suck incidents: I kept adjusting the limit screws after each chain suck (it didn't happen every...

    Chain/derailleur stretched to the max

I have a utility bike (road bike) for just pootling around town. The bike has an old-fashioned 7 speed screw-on freewheel. I think it is designed for a mountain bike because the largest ring on the rear sprocket is quite a bit larger that the second largest ring (see below). The gradient of...

    Chain length?

Hi cyclechatters, I have put a new chain on an old Raleigh. I don’t have the old chain. How do I gauge the correct length of chain? It’s probably a bit loose at the moment. Also, new shifting cables are going on. Any tips/things to beware of would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance,

    Chain “bunching” when back pedalling

As the title says, but only when in the small chainring. Could it be due to the chain being stretched ? I am going to renew the chain and cassette anyway as they are getting to that stage. Before anyone says you pedal forward anyway, you often have to back pedal when adjusting pedal position...

    Will this chain fit?

Hi, Im needing a new chain as the link within my current has become very stiff and causing shfiting skips. I have the Sora 9 speed groupset and that would make me thing i would need a 9 speed chain. But when i go to check the bike specs on the manfucator page it states the chain is a 6/7/8...

    Chain ring - suitable replacement

At present I'm running an Ultegra 6700 compact chainset. I have just replaced the chain and cassette due to wear. Chain Wrapping Up On Itself When Changing To The Smallest Chainring: Any Ideas?

This has never happened to me before, but on the way home on Monday night, my drivetrain seized solid as I changed down to the smallest chainring on the way up a very steep incline (I changed down whilst I had good momentum so I wasn't loading the drivetrain). I walked the bike the rest of the...

    WD40 for the chain

Hi, just wondered if it’s ok to use wd40 for the chain. Not long term use but at the moment with the poor weather I keep hosing the bike off after each ride so then spray the chain with wd40 or similar to drive out the water and stop it rusting between uses. Would this offer enough protection...
