I used to find the gilet fine for winter commuting, in summer it was generally daylight so not an issue as I didn't wear it, but agree its not a summer garment, hence I favoured a gilet over a full jacket. They are brilliant for being seen on the winter commute, you notice people wearing them really stand out when you're driving.

I have one of the harnesses from BTR with the same reflective stuff on it, means I can wear what ever I want and just put it over.

Have they managed to make the silvery reflective jackets/gilets lighter, any less plasticky and less boil in the bag yet?

I have the reversible gilet: proper boil in the bag! I figure it was helping me lose weight……bonus!
That said, I’d be up for a more breathable version, to be honest!

At 5’7” 70 kg do you think size small?
At almost 6’ and over 90kg, I may not be the best one to ask! Mine was L, & was pretty true to their size chart, I’d say 👍

Proviz. Highly reflective and very good for short journeys. My commute is 20km one way and by the time I got to work I felt like I had been in a sauna for an hour. I could literally wring sweat out of my marino base layer.

I will cutting my proviz up and and using it to highlight a viz vest.

Trespass do a Proviz-style cycling jacket - I picked one up from their outlet store the other day. The price tag said £55, but when I got to the till the price had dropped to £40. Pleaded as punch ^_^

Wore it for the first time this morning. Still boil in the bag though but I didn’t notice that until I arrived at work and took it off.

good spot - though is only showing 37mm when I look.
For anyone thinking of THOSE, I'd double check the ETRTO sizing if planning to use on something with a tight fit - I bought some Vittorias from Planet X - pretty sure they said they were 37 or 38 but the tyre carcass showed a width of 40.

That teaches me to rush ^_^

A gilet is much more versatile than a jacket. A mesh one even more so you can put it over summer kit if you want to ride at night.

Not a fan of proviz really. Just using reflective material to make a sweaty jacket doesn't seem like a massive step forward.

Back in the day we had illuminite material that looked normal in daylight but very reflective at night. And it was breathable.

And if you've ever driven behind a cyclist at night it's the movement of the reflectives on the lower legs that really stand out.

Those harness things are great, I have one which came via AliExpress for under a fiver. Also got a Rockbros mesh gilet which has large panels similar to Provis but way more breathable for winter commuting duties. I have a Proviz 360 jacket but only use it as a waterproof for commuting in wet weather, as it is too boil-in-the-bag.

Polaris Bikewear's RBS hi-viz gilet - £11.39 down from £39.99, but size large only at this price.
https://www.polaris-bikewear.com/polaris-rbs-windproof-cycling-commuter-gilet-size-s-m-l-xl-xxl.html
Banner at top of the page says FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING OVER £15 so may be able to add something cheap to get free shipping.
The prices are a bit weird

The L was originally £39.99 - reduced to £11.39
but the XL was originally £53.92 - reduced to £37.94:eek:

that seems a bit dodgy to me???
