    3 Bikes on a roof?

Little V (Now more Medium V) Now has a (small) adults mountain bike which now with 3 in the car will not fit unless I take the front wheel off... Right Pain... I've used a rear cycle carrier before but hate them (Scratched boot, wobbly and blocked lights etc...) and was thinking of going 'Up...

    Carbo folding bikes

Currently vapourware, but if these come reality, quite interesting. I'm almost tempted to fund one of the early bird offers. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/carbo-the-world-s-lightest-folding-electric-bike#/

Good places to test & buy kids bikes in the North?

My 10yr old daughter will be ready for a new bike this xmas. She's currently mulling over the options of a BMX, hybrid or a larger version of what she has now (classic town/dutch bike with wide handlebars, front basket etc). I've tried to explain the relative pros and cons of each, but really...

    Old bikes at new prices

I was in the market for an MTB and noticed that a local shop had a 2012 model still in stock. Went in and had a look. Nice bike at £1900 but nevertheless an old model. Wondered if I could get further discount given its age and was offered £50. Needless to say I walked away.

    Relatively Small Cargo Bikes

I’m hanging my nose over one of these, as a replacement for my Pashley Pronto: My logic is that it will carry almost anything I want to carry, should be able to get through most obstructions (barriers etc. on cycle paths) and be nicer to ride. I think a full size cargo bike (long-john, trike...

    Cadence on touring bikes

Does anyone use cadence on their cycling computer on their touring bike. I'm finding it quite useful as it tells me when to change gear when it is too high or low. On a road bike it should be aimed at keeping it between 80 and 90 rpm, but what about tour bikes, what are peoples views?

When are 2019 bikes being released?

Alternative title, "When will the sales start"? I'm considering buying a Genesis Croix de Fer 10 but it's only the 2018 model currently available and I feel like if I buy it now, the price will drop and I'll miss out on a bargain. My local bike shop stocks the 2018 model for £1000 while a...

Why do pros ride bikes with such paint jobs?

Good afternoon, Watching the grand tours this year has made me wonder why, as the title says, do so many of the bikes have such uninspiring paint jobs? I remember when I was kid, Viking and Holdsworth both had UK based pro teams and I wanted a Holdsworth because of the Orange and Blue paint...

    Supermarkets and bikes

Needed to pop into one of those giant Tescos tonight, but couldn't buy anything because the security guard was "no bikes allowed". I don't get why supermarkets don't like letting in people pushing things around on wheels. I was about to explain that I didn't want to lock up a bike costing more...

    Helium Bikes

I'm on holiday in France, and the place we are staying at has a bunch of old French bikes available for use. There are a couple that have 'helium' branding. I can't find anything about them online. Does anybody know anything? Are they Peugeot by another name?

    Touring Bikes v Road Bikes

The title of this thread does not really explain what I'm asking, it is not what is better so a post on this pointless because it is two different styles of riding and everyone has their own preference. The purpose of this thread is to answer a thought I've been having the past couple of days...

Roof racks and carbon fibre bikes

The only type of bike rack my car will take is a roof-mounted one, which I've duly fitted. However, I'm wondering whether it is suitable for my Time, given the arm that holds the bike upright atttaches to the frame and has to be fairly tight to stop movement. I'm told that CF frames aren't...

    Fat Tire Bikes

I'm curious. After seeing a few of these fat tire bikes on the road, I'm wondering what they must be like to ride. Are they designed for a smoother ride on rougher roads? I can't imagine getting up much speed on one, but they sure are unique looking.

    Viking Road Bikes

I am always amazed at how cheap you can buy hardly used Viking Road bikes there can't be many days when i don't see at least 1 on local gumtree for less than £100 . so my question is surely they cant be that bad ok i know a lot of them have low end gear on them but some look a lot better spec

Round trip generator for road bikes

Hi, Did search but couldn't find an answer. There is a really good site - cycle.travel - for planning round routes. Basically, put in where you are and you can use a slider to choose how many miles you want to travel, whilst it shows you three different loops on the map. The routes...

Bikes packed, checked in , off tomorrow morning!

Chrome finish durability - which older bikes are best and worst?

I've been tinkering around with a pair of £5 shabby 3-speeds, with a view to possibly using the best bits of both to create a low-maintenance hub gear local knockabout as I have a liking for SA 3-speeds. Yes, I've already got a 3 speed Puch Elegance, but that is pretty tidy as I've owned it...

Canal towpaths/gravel/grass and MTX bikes - Boardman MTX 8.6

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has an MTX bike? What is the difference between that and a hybrid bike? Additionally, does anyone know if the Boardman MTX 8.6 is any good and if it would cope with cycling along canal towpaths, and the odd bit of grass and gravel? I don't really want a...

Bikes with petrol engines bodged on

Anyone else seeing an increase in these recently? Totally illegal and far more dangerous than an actual moped I'd assume along with zero insurance and registration. Why vintage bikes are better than new bikes

Looking through the vintage section of Ebay I came across a photo that explains why old bikes are so much nicer than new. Turns out it's got less to do with craftsmanship than it does good husbandry. You see, once built, vintage bikes are free range and grass fed!
