10 speed or 11 speed chain - a quick question

I coulda swore I ordered KMC 10 speed chains. They've arrived this morning an they are KMC X11-93 which is an 11 speed chain. Can I fit the 11 speed chains to my 10 speed bikes? One is Shimano 105 and the other is Sram Apex, both 10 speed.

    Non indexed chain?

I've been looking at these 5 or 6 speed "non Indexed" chains for vintage bikes. Only £3. https://www.bankruptbikeparts.co.uk/50-039-s-60-039-s-70-039-s-80-039-s-racing-bike-chain-1-2x-3-32-114-links-ideal-non-index-bbp2213249 These chains are probably manufactured before Shimano's Hyperglide...

    Confused over replacement chain

I thought I'd treat my 8-speed tourer to a new chain (and possibly a new cassette), my current one having done about 5,000 miles, so I can't complain. You don't seem to be able to get my current chain, a Shimano HG50, these days, though you can get an HG40 - what's the difference? Or if I go...

Where to buy triple chain ring bolts?

:banghead: Where on earth can I get these things? There are heaps of web pages advertising double chain ring bolts, even one with triple chain ring bolts, but for 4-armed crank spiders, and I need bolts for 5-armed. My triple chain ring setup is basically a fairly standard Shimano Tiagra type...

C2C Cycleway Consett to Chain Bridge.

5 of us are doing the C2C (and return) in June on road bikes and I have meticulously and tediously checked the route against the quality of roads from Workington to Tynemouth using Google maps street view. However street view does not go along footways. Between Consett and the Tyne at what I...

Past few rides my chain has been rubbing on the front derialleur . It's rubbing on the right side of the derialleur if your sitting on the bike looking down . Only happens when in the front big ring and the middle to the smallest cog at the back . How do I adjust this properly .? Thoufit i would...

Chain-link-shaped hole in chain wear tool

Any idea what the hole is for? My best guess is it helps you find it in the toolbox. The other is presumably for wall mounting.

is their a way of preventing rusty chain?

I've only had my new hybrid bike since christmas but when i was checking my bike before going out. I noticed it then but i the bike still works?. It can't be because it's worn out as i've only had the bike nearly 5 months. The discs also have a tiny bit of rust on them. Do you know how this is...

    Chain problem

Hi, when I was out on my bike last night my chain slipped off when I was in my lowest gear to climb a hill causing me to have a clip less moment . Today when I was out there was a clunking sound as I was pedalling which got worse as I went on. When I got home I’ve had a quick look at the...

    Chain "missing link" compatibility query

I've aquired a Giant Revive semi-recumbent - a right wacky looking thing. I've fitted a larger sprocket to the Nexus hub and need to lengthen the chain by a couple of links, trouble is, I'm not sure what spec the chain is. Its a 3/32 chain for sure, but I don't know if its 3/32 single speed, or...

Is it true you can thread your chain through a SunTour rear derailleur cage without splitting chain?

I read somewhere a long while back, can't remember where I read it at but I do remember what it said. Someone wrote on this site that you can thread your chain through a rear SunTour derailleur cage without splitting it. One of my closest friends who rides and works on bikes, too told me you can...

Why the chuff is my chain slipping?

My chain is skipping, and I can’t work out why. I don't mean it's trying to change gear, it just seems to skip over the teeth on the rear but stay in the same gear. I thought at first it was a stiff link, because I've not been that vigilant with the maintenance over winter, and it was a little...

What do you look for when buying a new chain

Obviously you choose one of the correct size. But there's so much other bllx spouted about chains and there is significant variations in prices for any particular sized chains.

So had the bike just over 14 months and 6000km, checked for chain wear and its worn to 0.75% bought replacement chain. As far as I can tell from the illustration you put the chain on with the lettering facing toward you as you look at the bike, am I right? Any other tips?

    New chain

A couple of weeks ago I fitted a new chain on to my winter bike, it wasn't worn out, but would literally rust over night, despite being cleaned & wiped over with an oily rag and kept lubed. steel vs alloy chain rings

Aside from weight, its for the winter commuter so an extra few grams is not an issue on something clocking 18 kg or so loaded. The chainring on my subway looks toast and as the crankset is 175 mm and i prefer 170s i have seen steel triples , tourney spec cheap enough . What is the durability...

Cannot adjust triple front mech to work properly after renewing chain.

The gory details: Chain gauge tool suggests new chain, but not enough wear for a new cassette. Front mech is a triple with an eight speed cassette. Splitting an old chain

For may years I have occasionally given my Sedis Sport Ultra chain a good clean which involved removing the chain. I've always done this successfully with my Cyclo(?) rivet punch; the rivets don't have a raised head and I can do the job fairly easily. As my good 1980s road bike is hanging up...
