My road bike is terrible at stopping in the wet at the moment.
I've got some Giant PR2 wheels that are low mileage.
The Clarks brake blocks are new.
Coming down some wet muddy descents, I really struggled.
Are there any decent wet weather brake blocks I can invest in?
Hi all
the lad carnt get on with his new bike (first time drop handle bars). is it possible to fit Tektro AL721 brakes working along side the current STI brakes as i would like him to get used to the STI levers while having the backup of Tektro AL721 for a bit of confidence
The rotors on my subway seem very thick, theres hardly any room for the tektro novella brakes means thre is not much room for adjustment which means its a PITA to get them running sweet .
Do calipers of different brands have more pad spacing or are different rotors a different thickness?
May have posted about this before. Loving my Cannondale road bike (Cannondale CAAD8 7 Sora c. 2014) but the one thing I struggle with is braking. Basically, need to start braking quite early on descents to be sure of stopping a road junction. (Don't really have this problem on my Dawes tourer.)...
I splashed out on a new fork from Planet X (and when I say 'splashed out' I mean 'bought the one in the colour they are selling cheap') for a frame I've had sat in the shed for a while.
While the frame has been gathering cobwebs I've been picking up other bits for it, so I've been putting it...
A few weeks ago. I bought a new set of brakes to replace the tektro's on my Triban 540. I fancied trying to do it myself as it seemed a simple enough job and I have been slowly gravitating towards doing my own maintenance rather then always relying on an LBS to do it for me.
The wire cutters i...
The braking between the two brakes feels different from one another.
The left brake moves more smoothly, but the lever itself feels loose to touch - I imagine the cable/barrel adjustere will help in that respect The lever also travels further compared to the left brake lever. The right brake...
Bit of a strange one, on my diverge which has br-r785 disc brakes which are pretty much the same as my mountain bikes m785 brakes, i have put in new pads and they won't stop rubbing. I did the below but the pad to disc clearance is very small.
Removed old pads
Cleaned rotor and caliper...
Only done about 30 miles so far on my new Carerra subway 2 but both brakes keep rubbing. I'm able to loosen the front brake and realign the brake for awhile to stop it rubbing however the rubbing comes back. The rear brake rubs no matter what I do, have also tried pushing the pistons back. Both...
I've got these on my beat-up single speed. I've only had them on for about four months and they've already worn thin. Probably something to do with my mostly cycling around central London and braking for traffic lights.
Anyway, does anyone have suggestions on an upgrade to these? I imagine...
Whatever happened to dual brakes on road bikes ? My old racer had these and now I am thinking about upgrading my Hybrid bike. I am looking at CX bikes and touring bikes. But they all have the drop handle bars. I like to ride with my hands on top, hence why I bought a Hybrid in the first place...
Hi,
My latest project I thought I'd repurpose some Tektro r539 long reach brakes that have a 57mm reach. They came off a bike that sadly passed away. The front brakes fits on very nicely but the rear is millimetres short.
The frame is a thorn audax and on their website they have a similar bike...
Been given the go ahead (on a moderate budget) to put drop bars on my planet x London road. The TRP HYRD callipers are too of my shirt list for callipers compatible with road levers. Has anyone any advice experience if them or know of a blinding deal in them?
Hi, I know this has been posted before, but I just wondered why they start this. My bike was fine up until eight weeks ago when my rear derailleur came off, since then it has been in the garage with the wheel hanging of the ceiling. I put the bike together yesterday and found that when I used...
The Tektro calipers on my Triban 3 are prone to seizing, due mainly to poor design choices. Are the similar Shimano units (which I'm assuming would be a simple replacement) equally prone to seizing? Advice please.
I bought a Ridgeback World Tour Voyage touring bike last year and have found it to be a very good all round tourer, shopper, winter bike - just like a 'bike' used to be many years ago, before they all became specialist niche products.
I've been very happy with it apart from one thing......the...
Mate at work has giant aero style road bike the model number evades me just now. However how wide a tyre could you run with these new style aero brakes? It would seem as the pads wear down the cAlipers are now fouling the tyre . 25c tyres fitted . Seems a bit tight and no way to get longevity...
Hi,
I got on my bike today and found my breaks to be pretty much nearly useless.
A couple of days before, when I was out I had a constant squeek, not from braking. However i took my bike for its free 6week service a couple weeks ago and mentioned about squeeking brakes I had developed.
I...
The front brakes on my daughters bike keep rubbing against the rim, its v brakes. Ive tried adjusting the screws but its still happening, ill admit Im a complete novice when it comes to bikes, I know how to ride a bike and thats about it. Any help is much appreciated
Well it must be summer as I've hauled the OHs bike out from the rear of the shed.
I've never been able to get the brakes to work very well on it, mainly I think because it has crap plastic-bodied cantilevers on it from 1989. So I've binned them (and kept the decent pads I put on last summer)...
Hi all I have a bsa regency from the 50:s (pre raleigh) which should have rod brakes. Cable brakes had been fitted when I bought it so I'm trying to return it back to standard. I bought all the rod brake kit from eBay which was old bsa stuff but I think it must be post Raleigh bsa.... It has a...
Hi all, currently got a boardman cx comp which has brake levers on bars as well as drops.
I really like this set up but am finding the bike a bit heavy, so I am considering one of the giant defy road bikes. However I would like brake levers on the bars too if possible.
Does anyone know if this...
I've had it with the cantilever brakes (Tektro Oryx apparently) on my Kona Jake CX. I've tried various pads and set them up toed in, toed out, flat contact and on various wheels but no matter what they screech horribly at even the lightest application at the front.
The only thing left (until I...
Anyone used this for bleeding Magura HS11s?
http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/products/bleed-kits/magura/rim/complete-kit/
Mine are 2002 brakes - this is the first time I will have bled them.
Specific questions:
Is it difficult?
Are the instructions that come with the kit good?
How much...
